Been meaning to post this one for a while. The video is a university project by game design students in Munich. The film paints a very broad picture of the evolution of video games. According to game design student Florian Smolka the (almost) single shot film was made in a very short time frame.
Here's a rundown of all the games that appear in the film.
- Tennis for Two, Oscilloscope, 1958
- Pac-Man, Arcade, 1980
- Donkey Kong, NES, 1980
- Sonic the Hedgehog, Sega Genesis, 1991
- Street Fighter II, SNES, 1991
- Super Mario 64, Nintendo 64, 1996
- Final Fantasy VII, Sony Playstation, 1997
- Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2, Sony Playstation 2. 2002
- Ecco the Dolphin, Sega Dreamcast, 2000
- Super Smash Bros. Melee, Nintendo Game Cube, 2001
- Wii Sports Golf, Nintendo Wii, 2006
- God of War III, Sony Playstation 3, 2010
- Rock Band, XBox 360, 2008
I can think of quite a few games and consoles that should have been included as well as the latest in terms of gesture and mobile games. The gang behind the video is quite aware of this but it doesn't prevent us from liking the video and in the end it does what its meant to by giving us a small insight into the history and evolution of video games. Great work guys!
