TELEPHONE HELICOPTER APPLAUSE GUNSHOT - Lorenz Rhode
"Anne Lucht's visual music clip takes you for a trip round the town of Düsseldorf, Germany - the place where electronic music made some huge leaps 30-40 years ago with bands like Can, Neu! and Kraftwerk. A low-res alien gang bopping their heads to Lorenz Rhode's krautrocky tune TELEPHONE HELICOPTER APPLAUSE GUNSHOT."

Woodkid Iron Video
Video director and photographer Yoann Lemoine introduces us to his musical alter ego Woodkid with the release of his first single called Iron off his EP (iTunes) of the same name. With credits that include a commercial for Lipton, a short film for Vogue Italia and music videos for Yelle, Moby, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry for "Teenage Dream", it's no surprise that his personal project is something to pay attention to.
Woodkid's sound is unique, I really like his voice which for some reason reminds me of Antony Hegart. The video is filled with beautiful dynamic imagery and slow-motion shots - a visual accomplishment that is mesmerizing to watch. I'm on my 10th viewing and I'm not even close to getting tired of it yet! Looking forward to hearing more of his music when his debut album is released later this year.

Les Chernokids
If there's one thing that freaks me out its mutant kids, they just gives me the creeps! However, I'm fascinated by stories about and around the history of the Chernobyl disaster, be it fictional or documentary or even travel oriented.
Les Chernokids is a 7 minute short gives us a glimpse into the lives of 4 mutant children with vivid imaginations who live under the shadow of the Chernobyl reactor. Starting off almost like a documentary interview with one of the children talking about his "mother" who we later find out to be literally one of the reactors. Some of the way the kids are shown can be deemed borderline disturbing so if you have issues watching images of the sort I would keep away.
The short film has been getting some creds winning "best of" at the E-Magiciens festival in Paris among a few others. The short CG film was directed by Matthieu Bernada, Nils Boussuge, Florence Ciuccoli, Clement Deltour and Marion Potegnief from the Supinfocom animation school.

Super Trailer
First off, we have to admit our unhealthy obsession with anything that involves Ellen Page. Second, after watching the trailer half a dozen times we think its sure to become a classic just because Rainn Wilson's great lines like "Don't deal drugs!" & "Don't molest kids" while he's kicking the crap out of criminals.
Written and directed by James Gunn. Starring Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page, Liv Tyler, Kevin Bacon. Basic story: When sad-sack loser Frank loses his wife to a seductive drug dealer, he finds himself bereft and wholly unable to cope. But soon he decides to fight back under the guise of a DIY superhero called Crimson Bolt. With a hand-made suit, a wrench, and a crazed sidekick named Boltie, the Crimson Bolt beats his way through the mean streets of crime in hopes of saving his wife.

Britney Spears - Hold It Against Me
So Britney's "back" again with a new mostly unanticipated video for Hold It Against Me after a week of 12 pointless YouTube teasers. Other than an OK song (well its better than GaGa's latest) the video makes almost no sense (not that many pop videos do). What really caught my attention is the blatant product placements by PlentyOfFish and Sony that hardly make sense. I would have enjoyed the video with less shots of Britney's botox frozen face (sponsored by POF & Sony).

Have a Geeky Valentine
Honestly, I've been wanting to post about geeky Valentine's Day card's for ages and today is the day. Originally I wasn't going to write anything long winded on the subject, but for some reason I got inspired and the words keep coming out.
A lot of us dismiss this as a fake holiday created by corporations. That might be true but honestly why should it matter? Like most men, I'm not a huge fan of V day. Not because I don't want to show my feelings or make a grand gesture to demonstrate to my partner how I feel but because its forced.
When I'm in a relationship with someone I've always had one rule when it comes to gestures of affection. Don't wait until today to do it! Do it on January 15th, do it June 3rd, do it in November, do it once a week/month (not year!), be it flowers, a dinner out, a special note left on the table/fridge... whatever you do just do it when he or she doesn't expect it.
I think that if you have strong feelings for someone it shouldn't be a chore, doing it should bring a smile to your face and if it doesn't well then I can't help you there. Don't wait until you're technically obligated to do it. Look, I'm no expert in relationships, I've make my mistakes numerous times and still occasionally slip, but I get back up and learn. I truly believe that those unexpected moments will be 1000x more special (and remembered!) than whatever you do on Valentine's Day, no matter how grandiose (OK if you buy her a mansion then that's another ball game).
Enough of that, lets get back to what I originally wanted to post. Here are some unique Valentine cards for the Geek in your life. The cards originally appeared a few years ago on VGCats.com and I've yet to find any other cards that are geekier than these. If you're not geek enough to know what video games these cards are based on the first is based on Phoenix Wright followed by Zelda and the last one is from Metroid.

LittleBigPlanet 2 N-Dubz video
Lets say you're Media Molecule and you've created LittleBigPlanet2 which is quite possibly the most customizable video game ever made with its users making thousands of unique levels everyday. How would you go about promoting this product? Well its a little of a no-brainer, just let the users create and share! That way you get videos like this one from N-Dubz, a UK pop band who decided to use the adorable protagonist sackboy from LBP2 and its versatile creation tools to make their latest music video. The result is a cool video (we won't comment on the song) and an ingenious way for MM to showoff the game's level creation capabilities.

Vodafone Ad with Double Rainbow Guy
Vodafone New Zealand has enlisted internet sensation Paul "Bear" Vasquez, (the Double Rainbow guy) and sent him on a journey of discovery of doubles. Using internet sensations to push brands is nothing new but sometimes brands jump on trends a bit too quick (example Kraft jumping on the Ted Williams craze). We find that Vodafone's ad did decent job of bringing forward its Double Back promotion while at the same time poking fun at what made Paul Vasques famous.

Portland Cello Project - Kanye West "All of the Lights" Cover
We always appreciate a great cover, especially when its from a song we like. Here we have the Portland Cello Project's orchestral, double-drummer, instrumental cover of Kanye West's "All of the Lights" which is probably our favourite song off My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. The video was recorded on on December 17th, 2010 in front of a sold out crowd at Portland, Oregon's Crystal Ballroom.

Volkswagen Commercial: The Force
Geek Rules: You’re not a real geek if you don’t like Star Wars. That said, the PBG’s are HUGE fans and some of us would be Darth Vader’s bitch any day. For the last couple years we’ve been seeing a sleuth of brands collaborating with George Lucas’ baby (case in point Star Wars Adidas Originals and Dixons in the UK). Volkswagen has jumped on the wagon with their a new Super Bowl ad from Deutsch featuring a pint-sized Darth Vader who uses the Force when he discovers the all-new 2012 Passat in the driveway. We really like this is the commercial for its goosebump inducing Imperial march as well as the pint sized Darth Vader that is guaranteed to make you smile.

Foursquare: Groundhog Day Badge
Its snowy February 2nd for most of us and spring is probably the last thing you can think of right. However today is Groundhog Day, the day the groundhog comes out of its hole and looks for its shadow to determine if spring will come early or not. In 2010 Pennsylvania was the first US state to partner with Foursquare by adding over 200 check-in attractions and creating 3 custom badges on the location based social network. Being an avid Foursquare user, the challenge of getting the next shiny new badge is irresistible. So to satisfy our hunger and to celebrate the Prognosticator of Prognosticators Punxutawney Phil's "coming out" day. The state of Pennsylvania has unveiled its next badge, the "PA Groundhog Day" badge.
Today (February 2nd, 2011) is the only day you can unlock this badge. Here are the two simple steps need to do to unlock the badge.
First, follow visitPA on Foursquare at Foursquare.com/visitPA
Second, check-in anywhere in the world and shout "groundhog" between 12:am and 11:59pm on February 2nd, 2011.
Oh and in case you needed to know, Punxutawney Phil didn't see his shadow this morning so an early spring for all!

What's the difference between the United Kingdom, Great Britain and England?
The difference between the U.K., Great Britain and England has been one of those lifelong questions most of us have never thought of asking (or cared). For those who do, “Time Management Coach” G.C.P. Grey does his best to answer this questions by using a visual presentation. However, even after 3 views, we are still confused. If you're like us, just try reading the script at your own pace on Grey's blog.
Rihanna S&M video

Enthiran
What’s Enthiran (also known as Robot)? It’s the highest-grossing Indian film of all time. The video above is the last ten minutes of the film and has the most mind boggling insane CG sequences I’ve ever seen.

History of Gaming (Video)
Been meaning to post this one for a while. The video is a university project by game design students in Munich. The film paints a very broad picture of the evolution of video games. According to game design student Florian Smolka the (almost) single shot film was made in a very short time frame.
Here's a rundown of all the games that appear in the film.
- Tennis for Two, Oscilloscope, 1958
- Pac-Man, Arcade, 1980
- Donkey Kong, NES, 1980
- Sonic the Hedgehog, Sega Genesis, 1991
- Street Fighter II, SNES, 1991
- Super Mario 64, Nintendo 64, 1996
- Final Fantasy VII, Sony Playstation, 1997
- Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2, Sony Playstation 2. 2002
- Ecco the Dolphin, Sega Dreamcast, 2000
- Super Smash Bros. Melee, Nintendo Game Cube, 2001
- Wii Sports Golf, Nintendo Wii, 2006
- God of War III, Sony Playstation 3, 2010
- Rock Band, XBox 360, 2008
I can think of quite a few games and consoles that should have been included as well as the latest in terms of gesture and mobile games. The gang behind the video is quite aware of this but it doesn't prevent us from liking the video and in the end it does what its meant to by giving us a small insight into the history and evolution of video games. Great work guys!
